N is for Nickels and Noodles

Our letter this week is N. Our big event celebration called for a nickel hunt (in a bowl full of cold, yucky noodles). Most of the kids were thrilled to put their hands in and dig. We gave this group a challenge by putting other coins in as well. Kind of a little coin lesson, too!

We had more discussion about hibernation and migration. The kids "acted out" a little poem were they wore a bear's mask and pretended to hunt for berries, take a long winter's nap and come out when the sun shone. They said, "this is really fun".

Then we put together another book. This one on the jobs animals have in the winter. Quiz your child. Some grow fur to keep warm. Some hunt for food. Some migrate. And, others hide in a cave or under ground!

With the sun shining, we went outdoors to play. It was a much needed trip outdoors. Our indoor gym is too small to run and play. So they got out and ran and yelled (two things they cannot do indoors) and just took in the sun!

Mrs. E. had a little science lesson. She showed the kids how to remove a paperclip from a glass full of water without putting her hand in the cup! Do you know how she did it? Yep! She used a magnet! Our new little guy added to the lesson by telling the class it must have iron in it because magnets grab ahold of iron! Golly these kids keep us on our toes!

At the close of class today, we began discussion on penguins. We will carry this over on Wednesday. We plan to discuss their habitat. Their diet and how they stay warm. We will also share with the kids that there are many varieties and we will sneak in some social studies lessons by showing them what part of the world (southern hemisphere) that penguins can be found!

Have a nice Tuesday off!
