Cooking With "D's" On Thursday

Our letter of the week is "D" so we Decided to roll Dough into the letter D and cook it. Boy was it Delicious! The kids went to the church kitchen with us to put the dough in the oven. Many understood we needed to return later to get our items before they cooked too long.

We are working with letter identification and name recognition so we did a few exercises with our names. First, we read a book about Alphabet Construction. The kids got to follow-up with a little art project. They identified the letter of their first name which was laid out on a table. Then, like in the story, they got to decorate the letter. They turned out sooooo cute. Next, we colored a piece of cardstock that had our names on it. This cardstock also had stickers under each letter of our name. The idea was to use the clothespin to "match" letters on the clothespin to the one on their name sheet. They handled this project beautifully! These came home today so you can work more at home.

We sent home "name books" today. There are instructions with the book but the idea is to work on a letter a day until it's mastered. Learning to write their name is not only important but teaches the children that when you put letters together (in a certain combination) it forms a word. Many words together, tell stories, etc.

Have a nice weekend everyone!
