Friday Was All About The Fire Station

We had beautiful weather for our walk. Not too cold. Just right and the sun was shining! Thank you to all the parent volunteers who walked with us. Mrs. Eastman and Mrs. Sapp really appreciate the help.

The Fire Department was so fun for so many reasons. We have been discussing the firefighters all week. We got to see all the big trucks and medics. We learned why they call the big trucks "hooks and ladders". We got to see where the water comes out. Best of all, we got to walk up into the big trucks and through the medic. Oh, and don't let me forget when we got to watch fireman Nick come down the pole! Our kiddos had so many intelligent questions and comments ... we were beaming with pride. Not to mention how well-behaved they all were! A few things the firemen mentioned: be sure to pick a safe place (as a family) in your home to meet should there be a fire (like the mailbox). Also, they reminded the kids to crawl through the house and yell loudly, "I'm here". Finally, remind your kiddos the fireman are nice and safe even though they may not look it in their gear. So don't be afraid to go to the man behind the mask.

When we returned, we went to gym and had lunch. We worked a little with our sight word "AND" and we made our own book called "Who's Hat Is That?". The kids got to color the pages to our book then cut the pages to make a fun matching book.

We ended the day with a community wrap-up of sorts. Mrs. Sapp drew a box on some big paper indicating this was our community. She asked the kids for input with regard to what we saw on our walk that was in our community. They remembered the Dairy Queen, the library, some dogs we saw. They even remembered the fire truck that came from the station we just visited. He drove by and honked at us! That was cool!

All in all, another great day in the purple room. Coming next week is All About Eric Carle.
