Letter D and French Class

Along with French class we worked with the letter D today. We practiced writing it and made a Dog craft. These letter crafts stay at school and they will become a part of your portfolio at the end of the year. Everyone has the hang of the letter-writing sheet now and we are ALMOST there with the glue sticks. Some of us are still trying to figure out what side the glue goes on. We have been putting an "X" on the side they put the glue on and telling them to then turn it over and this seems to help.

We are talking about our names this week and working on name recognition. Mrs. Eastman worked with the kids on the rug today about short and long names. The kids helped her sort our classmates names in two piles ... long names and short names. They did very, very well with this!

Then we let the kids color their names with colored pencils. Some of them went home and others chose to finish in class on Thursday. We have some other activities planned this week that will help the children begin to recognize their name in print. Usually, they start out remembering and identifying the first letter in their first name. The rest takes a bit of time but they typically get it by the end of the year. If you can, work on this at home, too.
