A Busy Thursday

We didn't even finish all that we had planned! Our letter this week was "R". So we began the day by "playing" with some Rice Krispies. The kids got to put Rice Krispie cereal on a printed capital R. When they were finished, the ate the cereal. Everyone was patient and did very well "tracing". They even talked later that they "did a line and a curve".

Next, we went to the art room for story book art. Mrs. Eastman read The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle. After reading the story, we got to make our own spider web with a black paper plate, plastic spider rings, and white yarn! We practiced some fine motor skills by lacing the plate. They really had fun with this and we encourage more activities like this at home. We were quite surprised at (1) how well they did lacing and (2) just how many children actually enjoyed this activity so much that they wanted to continue.

We celebrated a birthday today and had some extra special treats. We typically drink water for snack but had some mini cookies and apple juice.

We read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and did our own alphabet recognition activity on the rug as a group. Many of our friends are still getting familiar with the letters of the alphabet so we also encourage more identification activities at home.

Finally, we did some coconut inspection of our own. Mrs. Eastman brought in a coconut and we did some observation first (holding, touching, smelling, shaking, etc.) and then we popped it open. We were NOT surprised to find the water inside because the kids shook it during observation and discovered it made a noise like water. We offered tastings and many tried it. I will tell you it was YUCK!

Have a super (dry) weekend!

  1. Will was very excited to celebrate his fellow classmate's birthday! He said he liked the coconut water, but I will have to confirm that! :)
