Closing Out The Week

Friday was a nice summary of the week's activities. Our letter was P and our sight word was HE.

The kids got to "paint" polka dots on the letter P with daubers (like bingo markers). We read a cute book called Pete The Cat. Pete is a blue cat that loves his white tennis shoes. But, whenever he steps into something with those cute, new shoes ... his shoes turn colors. After the story, the kids got to dream up things they might have stepped in with the construction paper shoe they had (all were different colors). Getting them to use their imaginations AND be able to speak up and out is a main goal at this level. Some had difficulty with the talking-in-front-of-a-group part, but ultimately did well.

You really should visit this site to listen to the story on-line. The kids might have fun listening to the song (I did my best singing it but this version is so much more fun). We also got to make and color our own version of the book.

We worked on a craft for the letter P. You may have imagined a polar bear or penguin. But, we did a panda bear.

Finally, our spatial relationship activity involved a rhyme with accompanying four-color pictures. The kids had to find the card that went with our description from the rhyme. Naturally, they all got it just like pro's.
