We Made The Most of It!

The weather was so nice and we know we have to take advantage of it so we went out to "recess" twice today!

Since our week is shortened (no school Friday), we decided not to have a letter of the week or a sight word. We like to repeat for emphasis and we need as many days as we can get. So, we reviewed our letters thus far. The kids practiced writing the F, P, and C. They also went on a hunt for letters. First, they hunted for any letter and came back to the circle and told us what they found. Next, we sent them hunting for a particular letter. Just about everyone had 100% recognition on the letters we have studied so far.

We went into the art room and reviewed some color mixtures. The kids got to finger paint with red and yellow paint. What did they end up with? An orange pumpkin! Yeah! They had a good time with this project. All were very well behaved (sometimes we end up with paint all over ... not today).

In science today, Mrs. Eastman taught the kids about solutions. She discussed the disappearing nature of a solution and created three of her own. The kids got to pass around the tupperware with the mixtures in them and shake. They all were intrigued.

We read a book about pumpkins and how they are created. Then, we followed-up with a life cycle project. Mrs. E. divided a paper plate into four "pie" shapes. We gave them the seed first and then talked about what we just learned in the book. A few good listeners remembered the vine came second, the flower came third and the pumpkin "fruit" came last. These will come home Wednesday as they were still drying by days end.

Finally, we visited with Madame Smail today as she flew in from France on this lovely day.

Don't forget to send in money for the Pumpkin Patch that we will visit next week. Also, note we designed some fun tee's for our classroom in honor of our blog and our newsletter. Since we call both items "Priceless and Purple" the shirts read "I Am Priceless". The second line on the tee says "SJEEC" which of course stands for St. John's Early Education Center. An order form came home today. Perhaps we can all wear them to the Fire Station when we take that field trip later in the month?!

Have a great Tuesday off!

  1. I love it...my daughter has 2 chemists for parents so we were thrilled that she was so excited about making solutions in school. We had no idea about all the other things you also did too! (except of course the extra recess) It sounds like a full day!
